Tonight at our young adults gathering
we talked about who the Biblical Jesus is
compared to the Jesus of Mormonism.
I found this portrait of Jesus on a google image search
and I liked it....so here was the background image we used
for tonight's message.

Over Easter weekend, Marie and I saw a clip of a film
portraying Jesus with bright blue eyes.
We both laughed about it agreeing it was hard
to take a portrayal of Jesus seriously with a look
that didn't seem very accurate.
So the question is, what did Jesus look like?
The Bible tells us there was nothing in his physical appearance
to draw anyone to him.
Does this mean Jesus was homely looking?
Short?
Bald?
Overweight?
It almost seems blasphemous asking such questions.
What is your take on what Jesus looked like?

Hi Matt,
ReplyDeleteI agree that the blue eyes were probably not accurate.
We had a little African-American girl in our 1st grade class on Palm Sunday who stated vehemently that "Jesus was white!" This prompted the classroom teacher and then all of us in Children's to discuss what we thought He looked like.
My 2 cents: when we finally stand (or fall to our knees) before Him He will probably look differently to each of us. His eyes will be a defining feature for me.

Hey Matt,
ReplyDeleteI think He looked like Mary! Seriously, all joking aside, I think His unassuming look came from being the son of a carpenter and a common woman. I think He looked like any of the people from the region. I think He fit in with the commoners so that they wouldn't be intimidated by Him. I will say, I believe He must have had a soft and gentle look about Him. A look that drew people to Him without being conspicuous. He lived with the flesh so that He could relate to our plight as humans and truly be able to intercede for us. Those are my thoughts, anyway... Allie
