I have been having an interesting conversation with a non-Christian friend recently about 2012.
Here is how our friends at Wikipedia sum up 2012:
"The 2012 phenomenon[1][2] is a present-day cultural meme proposing that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur in the year 2012. The forecast is based primarily on what is claimed to be the end-date of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, which is presented as lasting 5,125 years and as terminating on December 21 or 23, 2012. Much speculation has attached itself to this date, including interpretations of assorted legends, scriptures, numerological constructions and prophecies, and alleged channeling from extraterrestrials."
My non-Christian friend is genuinely concerned about 2012 and the potential for impending doom. It has opened the door for some great conversations about who Jesus Christ is and how the New Testament book of Revalation speaks to future events involving Jesus.
I am curious to see how others will use conversations about 2012 to point people to God.
On a side note, the movie 2012 is coming out this November and is being laughed at in unison by movie critics and tech geeks. Check out the trailer for yourself:
