My Favorite Moment from Teaching at Calvary Last Sunday

I had the honor of preaching in one of our Sunday services on Mother's Day. The passage from the Bible was Revelation 3:1-6. In this section Jesus calls out the ancient Church of Sardis as being spiritually asleep. Jesus tells them to Wake up!

About a month ago I was listening to Kari Jobe's version of the 'Revelation Song'
while reading through Revelation chapters 3 and 4. The following is what I wrote in my notebook based upon what I was listening to and reading that day.
I decided to include what I wrote, in my sermon today.

Here is what I wrote:
Jesus is Huge.
He is Worthy.
He is THE Almighty.
Jesus is the one was and who is and who is to come.
Jesus is the Alpha and Omega,
The first and the last, the beginning and the end.
Nothing compares to Him,
Nothing competes with Him,
Nothing threatens Him,
Nothing overcomes Him,
Nothing Holds Him Back,
Nothing Contains Him,
Nothing Surprises Him,
Nothing Makes Him Fearful or Scared or Worried.
Jesus is the One and Only who is worthy to receive Glory and Honor and Power,
For In Him all things were created and Because of His Will everything exists,
By Him, For Him and Through Him!
How could anyone of us be spiritually asleep in the presence of Jesus!
Jesus’ position,
Jesus’ power,
Jesus’ Authority and
Jesus’ Importance,
Demand our full attention!!!

I ended the morning reading from Ephesians 5:14, I love this passage:
"Wake up, O sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you."

  1. Matt,
Great message today!!! How dangerous it is for us to walk around as an asleep Christian. Sleep walking through our Christian life would result is so many missed blessings, missed opportunities to learn, share and experience God's love and grace. More importantly my being a asleep could prevent someone from coming to know God. Today was a WAKE UP CALL... Thank God for second chances and not being a perpetual snooze alarm. Your Brother in Christ, Bryan

  3. Aaron,

    Thanks for your kind words!
Funny that you noticed the crowd in the sermon podcast. For some reason, the audio doesn't pick up the audience very well in the recordings, so you rarely hear any crowd feedback. But I think your right, we had almost 300 extra people there that Sunday and I think a lot were visitors, doing a favor for their Mom by going to Church with them. This potentially made the audience a more uptight group than on a normal Sunday. I certaintly felt that from the pulpit! But the Lord was good and I know did a work in my own life through the sermon! Talk to you soon brother.
